Not only will you get to run a 5K but you’ll get to be an extra in an indie short film! \nInfo and registration here: https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Wilmington/TheRunnerFilm5K \nFrom the host: The race will begin at 9:30am on Sunday\, June 26\, 2022 at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington. The race will be timed but no awards will be given at this race. All participants will receive The Runner Film 5K shirts and will be credited in the “Special Thanks” portion of the film credits at the end of the movie. \nThe Runner is a short film centering around Justin\, a young gay man who\, like many\, is looking for love. After many unsuccessful attempts to make a connection with someone\, he realizes that he needs to try something different. In an effort to find new ways at meeting people\, he tries his hand at running and eventually grows to love it and as a result\, finds himself and unlocks a passion for something bigger than he ever thought possible. The Runner will take our viewers on a journey of one man’s self-discovery and the impact he has on himself and those closest to him. And through our lens\, we aim to show a story of love and how those who are different can still be just as ordinary as anyone else. \nThe film builds up to a 5K that Justin trains for. The Runner Film 5K is a genuine 5K but the only difference between this 5K and others is that this will be filmed for the purposes of being used in our movie. \nBy signing up for our race\, you’ll be agreeing to be an extra in our short film. There will be no guarantees of how much/little screen time each participant will have. The majority of this scene will be aerial shots and group shots. In order to be in our short film\, participants under 18 will need to have a parent/guardian present. \nAll proceeds will be donated to the LGBTQ Center of the Cape Fear Coast.

Join Noell Rowan (PhD\, LCSW) and Michaela Howells (PhD) for a two-part Olli At UNCW course “The Intersection of LGBT Populations and Aging: Biological and Cross-Cultural Explorations”. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a learning program for people age 50+ located across from UNCW.  Registration is $30 and you can pay online or at the door.\nDescription: “The first session will address the intersection of lesbian\, gay\, bisexual and transgender people and aging\, including educational film clips of the award-winning film\, GEN SILENT\, which depicts members of the LGBT older adult communities in the Boston area. We will discuss local and national resources and opportunities for community service involvement. In the second session\, we will explore naturally occurring variations in genetics\, hormones\, sex-determining factors\, and how these influence our development\, bodies and lives. We will incorporate cross-cultural biological\, medical and legal examples of how we respond to sexual variation and provide a framework to understand human diversity. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Community Screening of Raza Rap Project\, directed by Camilo Smith. \nThis film explores issues of racism and placemaking through music and the creation of a brand of Houston hip-hop music that was instrumental in the telling the stories of the Mexican American and Chicano communities in the South\, particularly Houston. The project also aims to address the Black and Brown dynamic in Houston and how cultural collaborations led to a movement that broadened to include trans and LGBTQ+ rights as well.
