Hey there! I’m Jamie Windham, the new Program Coordinator at the LGBTQ Center of the Cape Fear Coast, and I’m thrilled to be here! My journey to this role has been a long, winding road of service to others, as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy for five years, as a Medical Information Associate with Thermo Fisher Scientific, and most recently as a Microbiologist at Quality Chemical Laboratories. After hanging up my uniform and working in the civilian healthcare sector for several years, I needed a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. Now entering the non-profit realm, I have found what I was looking for.
For over two years, I’ve had the joy of facilitating the Wilmington Pride Youth Group. Supporting and mentoring young individuals as they navigate their identities has been incredibly rewarding and has solidified my dedication to advocacy and inclusion. When I’m not championing the LGBTQ community, you’ll find me out in nature, hugging trees (literally), exploring places like Vietnam, Scotland, and Costa Rica. I also love trying new restaurants and cuisines, and I’m working on my cooking skills! My 13-year-old dog-daughter, Lily, is my best friend, and she’s been with me most of my adult life. She’s a seasoned explorer herself and always down for a good walk, or sniff as I call them, around town.
I’m passionate about public health, environmental issues, social justice, and equality. I’m excited to bring my skills in communication, relationship building, and critical thinking to the LGBTQ Center’s mission. Finally, I’m excited to create and implement programs that promote equality, provide resources, and build a supportive, fabulous community for everyone.
Let’s make some magic happen!
