Raza Rap Project, Community Screening

September 29, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Event Navigation

Join us for a Community Screening of Raza Rap Project, directed by Camilo Smith.

This film explores issues of racism and placemaking through music and the creation of a brand of Houston hip-hop music that was instrumental in the telling the stories of the Mexican American and Chicano communities in the South, particularly Houston. The project also aims to address the Black and Brown dynamic in Houston and how cultural collaborations led to a movement that broadened to include trans and LGBTQ+ rights as well. The change the filmmaker hopes will happen from the film is for more people to accept and embrace the role of the Latinx community in the South in helping to create the Southern hip-hop scene while also giving broader exposure to Latinx trans culture.
