Wilmington, NC – March 4, 2024: In the wake of the tragic passing of Nex Benedict, an Oklahoma Student and community member on February 8th, 2024, the LGBT Center of The Cape Fear Coast is calling for visibility and solidarity from the local community.
“While we may have never crossed paths with Nex, our team interacts with LGBTQ+ youth on a daily basis. It is our firm belief that every LGBTQ+ young person should have the opportunity to thrive, grow, and eventually become LGBTQ+ adults and elders. Unfortunately, in a society where the very existence of queer youth is a subject of debate among public figures, achieving this becomes increasingly challenging. Join us and our partner organizations for a moment to come together for remembrance and community.” – Woody Goff, Executive Director
To honor and remember Nex Benedict, a vigil will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 1506 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401. This gathering will allow community leaders and members to come together in remembrance, reflection, and solidarity during this difficult time.
Members of the press and community are invited to attend the vigil to pay their respects and honor the memory of Nex Benedict. For further inquiries or media assistance, please contact: communications@lgbtqcapefear.org.
Let us join together in commemorating the life and legacy of Nex Benedict, whose spirit drives us to show up and do better for all.
